The second album from Stöma called Boe! New endavours for the freaky funky progrock duo.
Stöma consists of a drummer and a bassplayer, and doesn’t need other instruments since bassplayer Bruno uses effects and loops on his bass and voice in a way you won’t miss the guitar or other instruments.
Stöma is on a quest for new sounds and emotions.
On this album, D.J. Eniless is present on most of the tracks and a host of other musicians are helping out – the likes of Robin Schaeverbeke (Bruno&Robin, the New Earth Group), Elle Bandita, Fonckeltoff, Martn Ruiten (the Must, Firetime), Harry Merry and more
ARTIST BIO
Drummer Wouter van Wijk and bassplayer Bruno Xavier Ferro da Silva are well known musicians in the Alternative scene here in Rotterdam/Holland.
They also both play in The Must which is the back up band for famous keyboard wizard Harry Merry. Furthermore Bruno plays in various projects like Bruno&Robin (with Belgian drummer Robin Schaeverbeeke – ex Deus), Dr. Schnitt (organic drum&bass), Grillig (hiphop), and WeGo (Danish dance/performance group). Wouter also plays in Clayborn; a rockband from Rotterdam. Nowadays D.J. Eni-less is Stöma’s official third member.
On this new album called Stöma developes into a swinging psychedelic jazzfunk machine as opposed to the first titeless album which was much more noisy. Boe! sounds like a soundtrack for a really weird horror movie. Influences from movie music makers like Danny Elfman and Bernard Hermann are clearly audible, but Stöma also harbours influences by the likes of Hendrix, Beastie Boys, Fantomas, Primus and Fela Kuti.
REVIEWS
“This Dutch bass-and-drums duo’s stormy approach to punk is a jarring hoot (from crackpot folk to hardcore screech to arty funk to flaky post-rock).” Spin magazine
These freaked out multi disciplinary musicians from Rotterdam got the audience in a swinging frenzy. A bassplayer and a drummer who sound like a full blown band. (Popronde review)
It’s always heavenly to hear and see Stöma play. Their music is freaky and experimental; sometimes laid back and cool, at other instances explosive but always very tasty. So much is happening on stage one starts to wonder if there are about six more musicians hidden behind the stage curtains (3voor12)

Pris : 120,- DKKArmed with out-dated amps, (self made) pedals, drum machine, bass guitar, guitar and the elastic strong and moving voice of singer Jessie, The Suicidal Birds bring up a up raging punk rock storm, drenched in the raw passion of the blues: Intense, urgent, confronting, personal, sometimes treacherously playful, exciting and inescapable. With a voice full of character, uncompromisingly distorted guitar- and vocal sounds and at times overwhelming sound-orgy, they manage to give feelings of doubt, craziness, tragedy, sex & drugs, hope and despair, believe and disbelieve
SPEND YOUR LIFE IN SERIOUS MISERY is the third SUICIDAL BIRDS album. After the highly acclaimed Z-list and Versus Life albums this electro/punk/blues duo from the north of Holland’s new album defines the Suicidal Birds sound even more perfect. Two girls on guitar/vocals and bass along with their old fashioned drum machine are all it takes to send listeners on a rollercoaster ride to both heaven and hell. As always the lyrics display a cynical view of life and the music sure is not pretty; this is confrontational stuff; punk as it always was mend to be; screaming the inner blues out in your face. But the Suicidal Birds also know when to hold back on the gas peddle and give a false hope of some relieve but the sweeter the songs sound the more confrontational the lyrics get. 14 brand new songs recorded in the Suicidal Birds garage and produced in that true DIY spirit.
